Description

Theme: Authentic Creation

Length: 90 Minutes

Target Audience: Classroom teachers and administrators

Title: Video Is Changing EVERYTHING

Unleashing the power of video has never been easier (or more fun)...but are your students’ videos worth watching? Using models from society’s platforms of consumption (TV & Film, YouTube, social media), this session will challenge educators to design engaging lessons where students apply techniques that make their videos most effective.  Inspire a participatory culture of demonstration, reflection and celebration through video creation! Needed: recording device and an editing app. Suggested: iMovie, Capture, Splice

Guiding Question: In a media-saturated world, how can students learn to leverage the power of video to demonstrate, document, celebrate and reflect on learning?

Participant Learning Targets:

-Attendees will identify modern forms of video found on media and social platforms and the associated devices/apps used to create them

-Attendees will discuss and share opportunities for curricular learning to be demonstrated, documented, reflected on and celebrated using video

-Attendees will experience micro video creation by selecting an appropriate format/style to match a challenge, designing the production, and publishing to an audience

Suggested video editing apps: iMovie, Quik, Capture, or Splice
